Specification and intent

Spot value and bullion premium answer different questions

Melt value isolates gold content at spot. Purchase or sale price may be above or below that reference because of product premiums, spreads, taxes, condition and transaction terms.

Interactive tool

Compare an entered transaction price

Enter the fine-content basis and the total price you want to evaluate. Leave price blank until you have a real quote or transaction amount.

Use documented fineness as karat equivalent; 24K = 100%.
Theoretical melt value · USDUnavailable— fine troy oz
Premium / (discount)UnavailableTransaction price less theoretical melt value.
Break-even Gold spotUnavailableUSD per fine troy ounce, excluding future costs.

Enter a positive item weight, purity, and the actual price you want to evaluate.

Premium/discount is your entered price minus theoretical fine-metal value. Break-even spot is expressed in USD per troy ounce. No dealer prices are collected; taxes and fees are included only if present in your input price.

Calculation method

How the result is calculated

Melt value = gross weight × fineness × spot; premium = entered price − melt; premium % = premium ÷ melt × 100; break-even spot = entered price ÷ fine troy ounces.

A positive premium is not a recommendation and a negative premium is not proof of a bargain. The tool does not fetch or rank dealers and excludes taxes or fees unless you include them in the entered price.
