Use an explicit mark or documented ratio

Gold-Filled Jewelry Value Calculator

Use this estimate only when you have an explicit gold-layer fraction and karat mark or documentation. The tool will not infer a gold layer from the words gold filled, plated, or a color description alone.

Required

Total item weight + explicit layer fraction + layer karat

Not supported

Unmarked plating or inferred layer thickness

Output

Mark-based contained-gold estimate

Specification and intent

Solid gold, gold filled, and gold plated are different

Solid-gold fineness describes the whole metal item. Gold-filled or overlay marks describe a mechanically bonded layer; gold plating is a surface treatment whose recoverable mass is not predictable from total item weight.

Estimate from a disclosed layer mark

Select only the fraction actually stamped or documented, enter the marked layer karat and the metal item's measured weight.

For a verified 1/20 mark, enter 1.
For a verified 1/20 mark, enter 20; do not infer it.

Theoretical layer value · USDUnavailableCurrent spot value only; not a sale offer.

Enter the measured weight, exact disclosed ratio, and marked layer karat.

The ratio must come from an exact, verified mark or documentation. This estimates contained gold only; it does not authenticate the mark or predict refining recovery. Gold-plated items have no predictable gold mass from total weight alone.

Calculation method

How the result is calculated

Estimated fine-gold mass = item metal weight × disclosed layer-weight fraction × marked layer karat ÷ 24.

This does not authenticate a mark, determine plating thickness, predict refining recovery, or imply a buyer will pay the theoretical amount. Do not include stones or non-metal parts in item weight.
